The moment this bottle turned up in an op shop, the world inside it already existed. It was always going to be a temple scene — some worlds arrive whole, and this one refused to leave.
Seven bronze pilgrims travel a long road through a living forest - on foot and on horseback, some just setting out, some nearly there. Some will pass beneath red torii gates, others to the lower temple. Every time you look, you find another traveller at a different point on the journey. Every time you look, the forest has grown a little further over the road.
Every plant, fence, gate and pilgrim was placed by hand through the neck of the bottle, piece by piece. It cannot be repeated. It can only be watched, growing quietly around its travellers, for years to come.
